GENERAL
The Foundation's Trustees:
• have absolute discretion in all matters to do with the Foundation
• reserve the right to vary or withdraw completely any support
provided
• will take the aspirations and wishes of both Applicants'
and potential Foundationers into account when reaching their decisions.
All
support is subject to a regular review of circumstances and is contingent
upon Foundationers' satisfactory academic and social progress
Applicants
and Foundationers have no right of appeal against any decisions
taken by the Foundation.
How
do we define 'Need'?
We look for 'need' in the following areas:-
• Domestic Circumstances
• Social Circumstances
• Health
• Finance
• Education
NB - Whatever the reason, a wish for
fee-paying education by itself is not accepted as a need.
Bearwood
College
• We prefer to use Bearwood College to provide secondary education.
Support
• We decide the amount and type of support after a thorough
examination of your circumstances.
• We ask your parents to offset the costs of your educational
costs by making regular contributions whenever possible.
Are you already in fee-paying education?
• Our policy is to enable continuity within each educational
stage.
What if your school doesn't meet your needs?
• You may change schools provided that the reasons for the
change are both sound and agreed by the Head Teacher of the original
school and that the change occurs at a natural educational breakpoint
for example immediately before the start of either GCSE or 'A'-level
courses.
Parental Preferences
• We shall continue to listen to parental wishes for the education
of their children when reaching our decision.
Disposable
Assets
• We recognise that you may own disposable assets such as
a house which will be taken into account when assessing the level
of support. Where appropriate though, we expect your family to
use their savings in support of your education.
Further
Education
General - We may support you during a formal course which leads
to either:-
• the award of an academic degree which starts within two
years of completion of your 'A'-level course or a career development
qualification
• We will only support you for a first degree or one career
development course.
Careers
at Sea
• We give priority to those Foundationers pursuing a career
at sea.
Existing Foundationers
• We may continue to support you during your first University
degree course.
New
Foundationers
• We may support you during your first University degree
course.
Loans
• We may consider making conditional loans as and when Trustees
see fit.
Length of qualifying sea-service
• We require the eligible parent to have spent not less than
five years at sea but, in exceptional cases, we may consider applications
from those with shorter periods of sea-service.
Nationality
• We will only consider supporting you if you have British
Nationality.
UK
Education
• we will support you during your education within the United
Kingdom.
